Services
Our areas of expertise range from small wind power projects to large scale power systems. In fact, anything to do with power generation, transmission, distribution or use!
Range of Services
Small
Wind Systems - We design, supply
and install a selected range of professional quality and robust wind
turbines, inverters and associated
equipment. We are the main UK distributor of high quality turbines manufactured by Eoltec

Wind Speed Monitoring - For larger wind projects, we supply and install meteorological masts up to 60m tall, along with all required instruments and dataloggers
Feasibility studies - We have carried out a wide range of feasibility studies for clients including local authorities, community organisations and private landowners for renewable energy systems of all types and sizes.
Soil resistivity survey
and earthing system design - An essential component in all power
systems. We have carried out earthing system design on a wide range of
sites, including HV substations, windfarms and individual wind turbines
HV cable laying and jointing - We have the in house capability to carry out all aspects of MV and HV cable work, including system design, load flow studies, cable supply and laying. With cable handling equipment suitable for drums up to 7 tonnes in weight, we have the capability to lay even the biggest cables in longer lengths, without joins. and when these are required, we can do that too!
Large Wind Systems – This is an area where we have extensive experience, having been involved with windfarm scale projects since 1997. As well as carrying out many electrical infrastructure installations on commercial windfarms, we also provide services to the wind turbine manufacturers themselves. On Orkney, we have provided support to all manufacturers for construction, operations and maintenance, and currently provide O&M services on NEG - Micon (Vestas), Nordex and GE Wind turbines.
Product testing, Research and Development - Orkney is famous as a wind test site, and has been at the forefront of wind turbine R&D since the 1950's. In the 1980's, Burgar Hill was home to world leading research into large scale turbines, with the famous 3 MW LS1 turbine. BJRE were involved with this turbine, and on all subsequent developmental turbines on Burgar Hill, one of the windiest locations in Europe! We are currently working on the development and testing of Eoltec's 25 kW Windrunner turbine, and also provide extensive support to the European Marine Energy Centre.
Trouble shooting and fault finding on turbine, electrical infrastructure and substation equipment - We provide a reactive service to a wide range of customers with industrial electrical plant, generation equipment and distribution systems. Our furthest call out was to a 66 kV substation in Australia!
