WES18- 80 kW

BJRE are pleased to be able to offer wind turbines from Wind Energy Solutions in the Netherlands.  WES turbines have an enviable 25 year plus record of operating in extreme locations, ranging from coastal sites in the Netherlands (coastal as in on the beach!) to the windswept mountains of St Helena in the Atlantic.  As such the turbines exhibit the track record and reliability needed for places like Orkney, Shetland and the North of Scotland.

The 80 kW WES 18 turbine is particularly suited to Orkney and has earned the reputation of being "The Farmers Turbine" across Europe over the last few decades.  This scale of turbine can be erected using a single crane, locally available in most locations, including Orkney.  Rough Terrain cranes ensure that in most cases, access roads and hardstandings are not required.  Unlike tilt up turbines, no anchor block is required either, minimising ground excavations and concrete required.

Servicing is particularly easy, with a ladder up the tower permitting ready access for service teams, negating the need for equipment to tilt the turbine down with.  Like the majority of turbines now installed in Orkney, this is a 2 bladed machine, meaning that the rotor can be erected with just 1 crane, unlike larger 3 bladed turbines which require 2 cranes.

Estimated annual energy production in places like Orkney is in a different league altogether, with 256,000 kWh expected from a 7.5 m/s site.  And yet, the turbine still falls into the same Feed in Tariff banding of 24.1 p/kWh as a windcroft of multiple smaller turbines.  Its economies of scale however can ensure that capital cost per kW  can be as little as half that of building up a windcroft of smaller turbines.

Our new webpage will have much more details on this turbine, but in the meantime, we recommend that you look directly at theWES18 Webpage for much more details on this turbine, and in particular check out the video reports from farmers and other turbine owners who have operated these turbines for up to 20 years.
